Playing through with Patrick

Over the next couple weeks, I will be heading out of the office and playing the various courses in the area that we work with.  This is going to be part of a new review or “play-view” section, as we like to call it, which gives our groups a better sense of what the course looks like, pointers about how to play the course and even some tips from myself and Chris to help your game!

Fall is the best time of year to play in the Tidewater Area.  The mornings are cool, crisp and refreshing.  Put on your favorite sweater and head to the course.  The Bermuda fairways are at their best because they can rest in the cool nights and the greens have completely healed up from the late summer aeration.  The sun is setting a little earlier but there is still plenty of time to get in more golf after your morning round.

This week I had the chance to play two great courses that are in fantastic shape right now. The Jamestown Course at Williamsburg National is a Nicklaus and Associates design built in the 90’s.  The layout is very pleasing to the eye with gently sloping fairways, very few bunkers and small marshes.  Overall the course is playable for all skill types and with the Greensprings Vacation Resort right next door, it makes travel easy to and from.  This is the time of the year to play this track because of the greens and also the Yorktown Course.  Which I will be highlighting next week!

The second course of the day was The Green Course at the Golden Horseshoe.  I have always been a big fan of this golf course for three reasons; no houses, the solitude, and the layout. Rees Jones carved out a masterpiece throughout the ravines and thick woods at this historic property.  Located just down the road from Colonial Williamsburg, the site of the course is where the Battle of Williamsburg took place in 1862.  It is a reminder of what really took place all these years ago.

I highly recommend checking out both of these courses when in town and they are open year round!  I am really looking forward to next week when I try and take on a couple more courses, all of the same day!
