Golf Trip Life!

The best part of the fall is the change in temperature between the morning and the afternoon.  Today I played Kiskiack in the morning and the Blue Heron Course in the afternoon.  The damp, cool air and the morning dew on the ground get my juices flowing.  It not very often I get the chance to play in the morning but when I do, I really enjoy it.

Kiskiack is a wonderful public course located just off the interstate about 10-15 minutes north of Williamsburg.  The course has been in brilliant shape all year and today was no exception.  For trips, we love using this course as a way in or way out round.  The pace of play is always good and the staff is very friendly.  In this region, you don’t get a chance to see the entire course when playing one hole.  That is not the case here.  At different parts of the course you can see the entire track.  The beauty of the rolling hills, golf balls flying through the air and seeing other groups have a lot of fun is what golf is all about.  The green complexes dictate every hole.  You have to be very careful which side of the green you miss it on because it can be tricky.  The course does not have any forced carries until you get to the finishing par five.  The hole is framed beautifully into the hillside and with the clubhouse behind the green.  It is a fantastic way to end the round.

The next course on the list today was the Blue Heron Course at Ford’s Colony.  I haven’t played the course in years so it was a real treat to get out and see how the new Bermuda greens are rolling.  The greens looked great and rolled beautifully.  They had my number on a couple holes and the grain can be tricky to read but as the round goes on you will learn.  My favorite part of the course is the diversity in the surrounding nature.  There are marshes, thick woods, tall pines and small ponds that are home to plenty of wildlife.  The course does put a premium on accuracy which should suit the majority of the golfers that come to play.  The 3-wood got a lot of practice today but being in the middle of the fairway never hurts you on this course.  The course does not come back around after 9 holes but personally I enjoy that because it allows you to get lost in the entire day.  There is a halfway house and a beverage cart going around so you won’t be forgotten.

Today has been a real fun time and I hope that a little bit of insight into the courses we offer, helps you and some buddies consider a trip down here.  Granted we are almost to October but I had the option of wearing shorts today, went with the professional look but we have great weather for you to enjoy and wonderful course to play!
